lib-ir: Scholars' Bank news
Thanks to Barbara's efforts, we now have two collections
in for the Institute of Cognitive and Decision Sciences,
with a total of 22 items in them. She secured permission
for the ICDS Technical Reports right before she left for
ALA and we harvested and loaded in the papers already
in digital form yesterday. Immediately after seeing the
site up, Bertram Malle also wanted to archive their newsletter.
So I set up a second collection for that and harvested the
issues. Plans are underway to digitize the remaining technical
reports and get them in.
Thanks to Tom Stave's efforts, planning is underway to set
up a community and collection for the Oregon Survey Research
Laboratory (OSRL). OSRL will discontinue operations as of
June 30, 2005 and we plan to archive the electronic records
in Scholars' Bank. The records include SPSS data sets and
affiliated PDF reports. I'm working with their GTF right now to
get more information and to get the files themselves.
Eliz has been continuing her discussions with the RIGs and now
also with LGBT. I think those conversations will soon start to
bear fruit.
I secured a testimonial from Hilary Hart about how posting her
dissertation in Scholars' Bank has helped her professionally.
That testimonial is now up at:

There are some very exciting possibilities under discussion
with a potential sponsor who wants to support faculty
and graduate student research that would, I think, provide
a major incentive to contributing to Scholars' Bank. I can't
provide more details yet but it looks very promising.
Eliz and I will be doing a presentation about our recent
efforts at the DSpace User Group meeting in Cambridge,
England on July 7. Heather also helped to prepare the
presentation.
