lib-ir: Needs for Scholars' Bank: file formats

We currently have a number of file formats in Scholars'
Bank. These include:

MS Word documents, PDF files, Powerpoint, JPEG, TIFF,
Adobe In Design, HTML, and probably others. Some of these
were born digital and others were digitized. Some are in their
original versions, others have been migrated to a different
file format. Here's what I would like to start with:

1) a complete inventory of the file formats we have in the
archive (Corey, can you get this?)
2) a decision on which formats we are committed to preserving
at the bit stream level only and which we are also committed
tp preserving functionality and/or content
3) a decision on which other file formats we are willing to accept,
along with #2 above
4) decisions on what kind of technical metadata we need to begin
collecting so that we stand a chance of presereving these objects

The end result will be something like MIT's page at:
http://libraries.mit.edu/dspace-mit/mit/policies/format.html
- plus # 4 above which would be documented elsewhere.

Thoughts?
