lib-ir: IRG meeting? and SB updates
Next Monday, the 7th, is when our next regularly-scheduled
IRG meeting would take place. I would prefer that we not meet
this month. The reason is that I've been having so many
meetings relating to Scholars' Bank and setting up so
many collections that I need every spare hour right now to
follow through on the necessary work. Is that all right with the group?
Yesterday, I set up a collection for the Planning Office. I also
met with the AAA Library Committee and got some good feedback
and suggestions from them. Ed Teague set up this meeting.
This morning, I met with Barbara Butler and set up OIMB
as a community. She is going to be working with her faculty
and students, as well as submitting some of her own work.
Barbara has been strongly supportive of the idea for some
time and has reached a point where she is able to devote
some time to promoting and developing OIMB collections.
I now have quite a queue of works to be harvested for
SB. I am in the process of training four new staff in MDLS
to help with the work. I think that there will be quite a lot
of this kind of work coming to us in the next few months,
as more communities come online and publicity about
the archive grows. The next issue of Inside Oregon
is supposed to have a short article announcing the use
of SB as a searchable archive for past issues. That will
likely lead to more contacts.
On Monday, I will be speaking to the Clark Honors
College Colloquium students about putting their papers
into the archive at the end of the term. The professor
is very excited about this and strongly supportive of this
approach.
If you haven't visited the site for a while, do so. There are
397 items and lots more coming - a wide range of materials
reflecting the incredible activity of faculty, staff, and students
on the UO campus.
