lib-ir: Law School communities
I met last Friday with Law Library faculty. At their request,
I have added two new collections to SB: the School of
Law and UO Jaqua Law Library. There are two collections
under each one. They plan to start adding their own work
to the library collections and to work with the Law School
faculty to encourage them to use SB. There is apparently
a strong tradition already within the law community for
posting materials to open web spaces and the first step
may just be mirroring what they already do within SSRN's
(http://www.ssrn.com/) Legal Scholarship Network
(http://www.ssrn.com/lsn/index.html). While access to
posted materials seems to be free, there are charges
to institutions and individual subscribers for different
services - possibly also a fee for submission.
One of the things that the Law School faculty really
like about LSN, apparently, is that it gives them use
statistics - # of downloads for their work. This
is an area where we need to do some development.
Law Library faculty are going to be checking into
more of the features and limitations of LSN to see
how SB compares and what specific selling points
they can use in discussions with Law School
faculty.
