lib-ir: license for dissertations



I'm not sure if I ever sent this to our list.  Here's the text of the
license we developed in 2000 for the digital dissertation project.
You'll note that it differs in a few respects from the default license
we're currently using for scholarsbank.  In some respects I actually
think the earlier license was slightly better.

I hereby certify that, if appropriate, I have
obtained and attached hereto a written permission
statement from the owner(s) of each third party
copyrighted matter to be included in my thesis,
dissertation, or project report, allowing
distribution as specified below.

I hereby grant to the University of Oregon and
its agents the non-exclusive license to copy,
publicly display, archive, and make accessible,
under the conditions specified below, my thesis,
dissertation, or project report in whole or in
part in all forms of media, now or hereafter
known. I retain all other ownership rights to the
copyright of the work. I also retain the right to
use in future works (such as articles or books)
all or part of this thesis, dissertation, or
project report.

In addition to the unrestricted display of the
bibliographic information and the abstract, I
agree that the above mentioned work be placed in
the UO Electronic Dissertation archive with the
following status: (choose either 1. or 2.)


_X_  1.  Release the entire work immediately for
     access worldwide.
___  2.  Restrict access to the electronic copy
     of the work to the University of Oregon.
     After two years release my work worldwide
     unless you receive in writing a request from
     me to continue restricted access for
     additional two-year periods.
