Re: lib-ir: IRG meeting on Monday, March 1

A last minute finding of a very sick dog (my "baby") means that I will not be able to attend this Monday's meeting.

At last meeting I volunteered to research and compare the realm of conference and related matter coverage in other IRs. I have a short report outlining my findings, which from home I cannot access. Upon return I'll send it out to the group for your ultimate reading pleasure. However, in the interim, here's the bottom line: Domestically, few other IRs are promoting conference coverage, aside from linking to the MIT DSpace website, where "conference papers" et al are noted as materials that can be included. A general search of various IR clones returned very little under processed conference materials. An exception to this standard appears on the international scale (Hong Kong University), where conference proceedings are grouped by subject matter , such as engineering conference papers, science conference papers, etc.

If the UO actively promotes the storage and dissemination of conference proceedings, we would be a domestic (US) leader in that arena.
