Putting faculty writings on the web sounds like a nice idea - but I want to throw a little word of caution in about putting conference papers and reports in such a repository. Over the years I've found that my papers improve immensely from the time they've been given at conferences or developed as working papers until they hit print, and we probably want only our best work to be out there and cited. In addition, a fair amount of confusion can arise from having citations to different versions of the same work. Given the ease of access to material on the web, preliminary versions on the proposed system might be found more easily than refereed journal articles or books and you really want the citations to be to your peer-reviewed published work.
So, it sounds like a nice idea - but my elderly advice would be to use the resource very cautiously, perhaps for things that won't be published in journals or book form - or, if putting preliminary material up, remembering to withdraw earlier versions once your best one is in print.

Thanks for sending out those messages to the department.
To encourage wider PPPM Faculty participation in the Institutional Repository project, the UO Libraries is offering to catalogue any Faculty works submitted to the IR. These Faculty works can be papers, presentations, conference proceedings, technical reports, working papers, etc. Not only would the works appear in the UO Libraries catalog, but would also appear in the Orbis catalog and best of all, in WorldCat. This will provide a very wide exposure to Faculty works across the US and in many other countries, especially in Europe.
Please let me know if you or other Faculty are interested.
