RE: lib-ir: an important comment from the Council meeting yesterday
JQ,
I'll direct this to the PPPM-IR group. I believe that they wish to implement
the e-only requirement for their terminal projects perhaps as early as next
year, which will be greatly faciliated by the IR. However, with the FERPA
concerns it sounds like print will still be part of their future, or at
least the library's copy of the PPPM projects will be.

Subject: lib-ir: an important comment from the Council meeting yesterday
Carol's IR presentation at council (with kibbitzing from Barbara and me)
went well. We got lots of comments from other Council members. One comment
got me thinking: the comment was that mandatory submission of student work
raises huge FERPA and student privacy issues. I think we need either to
make sure with PPPM that the agreement is that submission is optional, or we
need to provide some way for the author to indicate that nobody (including
other members of the UO community) has access to the submission. I much
prefer the former, but I'm not sure we've communicated that to PPPM.
