lib-ir: from the chronicle of higher ed

* A GROUP OF GRADUATE STUDENTS at Ohio State University are
resisting a new policy requiring them to submit their
doctoral dissertations electronically so that they can be
posted online. The students say they're worried that they
might not be able to get the works published in print if
they've already appeared on the Web.

Ohio State appears to have mismanaged this particular transition in
scholarly publishing. We need to be proactive about emphasizing the
degree to which our IR approaches avoid problems like this.

Andrew, could you check with PPPM and find out whether many of the PPPM
terminal projects are eventually published in scholarly journals?
