lib-ir: another interesting recent item on repositories
There was an interesting live webcast March 11. I missed it, but the
archive is available at

Webcast Archive: Collections and Repositories
by Robert Stephenson, Tom Carey, Charles Ansorge and Steve Gilbert
The archive of a live webcast conducted on digital collections
and repositories as instructional resources.
This session was designed for librarians and instructional technology
people, and was focused on building and using institutional repositories
with a goal of facilitating the storage and location of learning
objects. Much of the session intentionally blurred the boundaries
between "institutional repository" and disciplinary "digital library",
since the argument is that the big change in the last year has been
robust tools for federation (OAI) that allow a user to simultaneously
search large numbers of individual libraries.
Good brief discussion of metadata and searching (finding content),
evaluating found learning object content, and how to assist faculty in
actually using learning objects.
Highly recommended to FITT Group members and to IRG members interested
in reference and supporting instructional faculty. Not as relevant to
the rest of the IRG.
