The Pioneer Cemetery of Eugene, Oregon was established by Spencer’s Butte Lodge No. 9 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in 1873 for use as a fraternal cemetery. The collection consists of a plot book gives name and grave locations for graves created between 1873-1928.

John H. Carkin (1883-1971) was a lawyer, served in the Oregon State Legislature, was Chairman of the Oregon Tax Commission, served in the rail transportation department, was president of a savings and loan, and was chief counsel for the Oregon PUC. The collection contains office documents, exhibits, testimony, publications, manuscripts, subject files, books, and correspondence.

James Henry Polhemus (1887-1965) was a civil engineer and inventor who became chief engineer of the Port of Portland, president of Portland General Electric Co., and the owner of the Willamette Tug and Barge Company. The papers consist of Polhemus’s personal diaries, 1934-1964, correspondence, scrapbooks, photographs, and records of the various companies with which he was associated.
