More workshops for instructors

We’ve scheduled 2 more workshops for faculty who are making the transition to Blackboard 9:
– Wednesday, Sept 30, 4:15pm-5:15, Knight 144 (previously scheduled)
– Thursday, Oct 1, 11am-12:30, Knight Library 42
– Friday, Oct 2, 1pm-2:30pm, Knight Library 42

No registration needed.

In addition, instructors can get assistance by visiting CMET Consulting in Knight Library Room 19, M-F 9-6.

Blackboard downtime, Knight Library Power Outage Oct 1, 5:30am-6:15am

There will be a power outage in Knight Library on October 1 from 5:30am until 6:15am for while some electrical work. Blackboard will be unavailable during this time.

SUBJECT:    Power Outage

A Power outage has been scheduled for Thursday, October 1 according to the following schedule:

5:30 a.m. to 6:15 a.m. – Allen Hall, Clinical Services, Condon Hall, Knight Library, McKenzie Hall, PLC

5:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. – Facilities Quonsets 130 & 136

The purpose of this shutdown is to move the campus feeders to the new CPS switch house.

PLEASE NOTE:  Make sure all sensitive electronics, including computers and printers, are turned off or disconnected, prior to this shutdown.

We regret any inconvenience this shutdown may cause.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we transfer over to modern equipment which will help us provide more reliable and sustainable power and improved cooling system.

Partial outage on one server

At around noon today, one of our Blackboard servers had a problem connecting to the database and restarted. During this time the users connected to this server were receiving some database errors. The problem has been corrected and both servers are now running without a problem.

By popular demand, we’ve scheduled several additional workshops for faculty and GTFs introducing the Blackboard system. New workshops (no preregistration needed) include:

  • Friday, Sept 25, 11am-12:30 in Knight 42 (Proctor 42): BB9 New Version Training
  • Wednesday, Sept 30, 4:15pm-5:15 in Knight 144 (Edmiston Classroom), BB9 New Version Training

Blackboard 9 and Internet Explorer 7

We have been getting more reports of problems with Blackboard 9 and Internet Explorer 7. For instance, instructors are unable to make a course available when using IE 7 and also have problems uploading grades into the Grade Center.

If you are using IE 7 we recommend that you either upgrade to IE 8 or switch to Firefox.

Blackboard maintenance completed

The maintenance on the Blackboard system is now complete. During this time we installed a security update, added more disk storage and did some database maintenance.

The new version of Blackboard has many changes. We have web pages with some tips for students and for instructors.

Course Copy Fixed

The course copy process has now been fixed. The course copy will happen the first time you try it so you no longer have to do it twice.

Blackboard downtime Sept 12, 8:00am-6:00pm

Blackboard will be down for maintenance on Saturday, Sept 12 from 8:00am until 6:00pm. During this time will be be upgrading our storage server to provide more file space for Blackboard and installing a security hotfix for Blackboard. There will be no user-visible changes to the Blackboard system.
