The UO Libraries provide access to a wide array of databases, electronic journals, and other electronic resources for the campus community. Eligibility for access to a specific resource is based upon the terms of the licensing agreement signed by the library, which limits off-campus access to current UO students, faculty, and staff. Students, faculty, and staff connecting to electronic resources from off-campus will need to authenticate themselves before access is allowed. Learn more about distance education services.
Authenticated Access Through the the UO Campus Network
- The campus VPN (virtual private network) software allows you to connect your computer to the campus network as if you were physically attached to the network when on campus. The client VPN allows you to authenticate one time, with access to all library resources as long as you remain logged in. To use the client VPN, you will need to download and install a small application.
Download the client VPN software.
- If you need assistance installing or connecting to the client VPN software, staff at the Information Services Help Desk can help you resolve the problems and get access.
Using the VPN software with Windows
- Click the Start menu, then All Programs,
then Cisco, then Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client,
then the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client.
- In the Username box, enter your Duck ID.
- In the Password box, enter your Duck ID password.
- Click the Connect button.
- You are now connected and can use network-related applications. A green O,
, may display in your taskbar, lower right corner of your monitor.
- To disconnect, locate the green O icon in the system tray (bottom right
corner of your monitor), right-click on it and select "Disconnect".
Using the VPN software with Mac OS X
- Open the Applications folder, then the Cisco
folder. Double-click the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client to start
the program.
- In the Username box, enter your Duck ID.
- In the Password box, enter your Duck ID password.
- Click the Connect button.
- You are now connected. The VPN software will display a green O,
, in the menu
bar at the top of your monitor.
- To disconnect, find the green O icon on the right side of the menu bar. Click
on the green O and select "Disconnect". The icon will turn red to indicate you
are no longer connected.
Using the campus modem pool
- UO students, faculty and staff who use the Information Services' modem pool have full access to the licensed resources offered by the library. Connecting to the Internet through the campus modem pool provides the authentication required for full access to databases, electronic journals, etc.
Authenticated Access Through the Library's Proxy Server
- When a database or electronic resource link is selected, patrons are taken to a library Web page that verifies their eligibility to use licensed resources. The library is implementing new proxy software. Until the migration of resources is complete, patrons may be asked for their duckID and password or their name and UO ID. When this project is complete, patrons will use only their duckID and password.
