All duplication requests are subject to curatorial approval. Materials will be duplicated only if their condition is adequate to withstand the process. For the protection of our materials, we do not allow self-service duplication. We respect copyright.
We support research and publication of our materials, but regret that we are obligated to recover our costs, and cannot underwrite duplication. Fees may be assessed for services and for use, in addition to production. Large orders may require a deposit.
Orders may be placed remotely; please e-mail us via spcarref@uoregon.edu, send a fax to 541-346-1882 or write us at UO Libraries--SPC, 1299 University of Oregon, Eugene, OR 97403-1299. No phone orders will be accepted.
Use fees are assessed whenever materials are published or displayed. This includes Web pages, items used for decor or display, inclusion in publication, promotional materials, and all other uses other than reference for research. Use fees are assessed on a sliding scale and are negotiated on an individual basis. Use fees are charged in addition to production and service fees detailed below.
Photocopying costs $0.25 cents per page. Books are copied one page at a time to protect the binding. Standard orders are normally completed within two weeks. Orders over 100 pages are subject to a 50% surcharge. Rush service is available at a 50% surcharge. Photocopies are not subject to a use fee. Extensive photocopy orders may require microfilming instead. To cancel an order, you must come in person to the Reading Room within 24 hours of placing the order, or you will be responsible for payment in full of all charges incurred.
Prices listed are per individual scan. Use fees are not included and are assessed separately. Multiple resolution scans of the same image are billed once at the highest resolution rate. Resolution is optical or actual resolution of scan, not resized or interpolated. A single project fee may be negotiated for larger quantities of scans.
We can provide scans in all common formats (TIFF, PICT, JPEG, GIF, and BMP) for PC or Mac. For Web pages we recommend 75 dpi; for standard publication, 300 dpi; for fine quality, 600 dpi; for posters, 1200 dpi. We can provide custom work (cropping, mounting, or specific tonal values) for an additional cost, please inquire. We can also provide original image capture in digital or analog form.
Scans may be downloaded from the Internet at no additional charge. We can also provide the scans on a variety of media (CD-ROM, floppy disc, or Zip disc), for an additional charge to cover the purchase of the media. We can also provide low-resolution reference prints for $0.25, or high-quality digital prints. Standard orders are normally completed within two weeks. Rush service is available at a 50% surcharge.

We maintain a full darkroom. Photographic representations are of preservation quality and are handcrafted by our skilled technicians with emphasis on visual effect and fidelity to the original pictorial information. We compensate for visual defects through dodging, burning, and filtration techniques. We can also provide original image capture in digital or analog form.
Prices are based on the nature of the material to be reproduced. Use fees are not included and are assessed separately. Project pricing may be available for orders of more than six prints. Separate fees apply for toning, cropping, and nonstandard paper stocks. Unless otherwise specified, prints are made on double-weight fiber-base paper with matte surface, and are processed to meet archival standards.
Black and white photographic prints may be obtained from most library materials including manuscripts and printed texts. If a stable negative does not exist, a copy negative must be created to fill the order (for glass-plate negatives up to 8x10, contact prints are created). Fragile negatives require special handling. All negatives remain the property of the Library.
