The following reminiscence was written for Special Collections by a man who knew Roy Andrews well as a family friend.

My first recollection of Roy Andrews was from my mother, whose picture is included in Mr. Andrews' collection. As family stories would tell, Roy would ride my mother-on the handle bars of his bicycle-around early day Eugene. My grandfather, O.M. Foster, and his family were great friends of Roy and his lovely mother in the early days (around 1910.) Roy was a frequent guest at our home at #28 West 12th Street.
In 1926 my mother married Floyd Warren Dodds, a pre-med student at the University of Oregon. As I was the only child of this union, Roy would take me on camping trips and on one occasion we climbed the Middle Sister together.
As a family we enjoyed many an evening of classical music at Roy's house where he lived with his mother. She was a sweet and dear person with a love and acceptance of everyone she met.
Roy took a special interest in me as I was interested in chemistry, even allowing me to "sit in" and monitor his chemistry classes on campus. As my father became a dentist, I was "to be" a doctor or dentist, but alas I became a railroad engineer instead!
Roy was a friend to many and influenced many lives and certainly my own. I miss him. I'm sure he made a great contribution to the University of Oregon.
