Introduction

Bernice Leland traveled to Tahiti (Sept.-Nov. 1909), and New Zealand (Nov. 1909-Mar. 1910) with Winifred B. Chase. They collected botanical specimens, especially algae, for Josephine E. Tilden of the Botanical Department, University of Minnesota. Ms. Leland later specialized in learning and reading disorders at the Psychological Clinic in Detroit, Michigan.

The collection contains a diary of Ms. Leland\'s trip; the entries are highly descriptive. Correspondence, 1906-1910, concerns the trip. Also included are trip are reports; newsclippings from local Minnesota newspapers about Ms. Leland\'s trip; and speeches, 1937-1941, written by Ms. Leland on learning and reading disorders.
