Academic Search Premier
Covers interdisciplinary sources with many full-text articles. Features include 'peer reviewed only' and 'full-text only' search options. The mix of scholarly and popular journals make it a good place to search for opinion or controversy papers.
Agricola
A database produced by the National Agriculture Library that covers all areas of botany and plant science (not just agriculture); also forestry and entomology.
Alternative Press Index
Covers nearly 300 alternative and radical publications. It includes numerous titles on the environment, gay/lesbian issues, native peoples, seniors, and women.
ArticleFirst
Covers a wide range of titles from lots of journals. Topics covered include business, humanities, medicine, popular culture, science, social science, and technology. ArticleFirst is very broad, but since it\'s updated daily it is very current.
BIOSIS
BIOSIS covers original research reports and reviews in biological and biomedical areas. Coverage includes traditional areas of biology, such as botany, zoology and microbiology, as well as related fields such as plant and animal science, agriculture, pharmacology and ecology. Interdisciplinary fields such as biochemistry, biophysics, and bioengineering are also included. Information is available from 1996 to the present.
The CQ researcher
[This one is NOT a database like the others, found in the library catalog.] Explores a single "hot" issue in the news in depth each week. Good for popular statistics and opinions on an issue.
GeoBase (Geography)
GeoBase covers worldwide literature in geography, ecology, & related disciplines.
Lexis-Nexis Academic
Lexis-Nexis Academic provides coverage of current news, business and company information, government,legal, and medical information from over 6,000 sources.
PAIS: Public Affairs Information Service
Database chronicling global public policy and social issues. Topics covered include government, international relations, environment, political science, public administration and more.
Sociological Abstracts
The latest research in sociology and related disciplines in the social and behavioral sciences. It includes citations since 1963 (abstracts begin in 1974) for articles in over 1,500 journals, conference papers, books, and dissertations.
Web of Science
This multidisciplinary database can be searched by subject, author, journal, and/or author address. It allows you to see who has used an article in their bibliography, or who has "cited" a particular published paper. You can see what new research has been done by tracking who quotes that paper since it was written. It can also be searched for articles that cite a known author or work.
Remember that looking at the bibliographies of articles you like can help you find other materials on your topic.
