1. Download the appropriate driver installer for your operating system
Vista 32 bit
Vista 64 bit
If you are unsure which version of Vista your laptop is running, look in your computer properties screen. (Open the Start menu, right-click on "Computer" and select "Properties.") Your OS version will be listed there.
2. Run the installer. (You will need to accept the license agreement and your computer may prompt you for authorization to make system changes.) The Dell 5310 printer driver will be extracted to the specified directory for later use.



3. Go to Control Panel, and select Printers. Click on the button at the top of the window that reads "Add a Printer."

4. Select "Add a local printer".

5. Select "Create a new port:" and "Standard TCP/IP Port" and press "Next"

6. Set "Device type" to "Autodetect". Enter "libprint3" for the Hostname, and "Portland_bw" for the Port name. Deselect "Query the printer and automatically select the driver," and press "Next."

7. Under Device Type select "Custom" and press "Settings"

8. Set "Port Name" and "Queue Name" to "Portland_BW" and "Printer or IP Address" to "libprint3."
Protocol should be set to "LPR" and Byte Counting must be enabled. Press OK.

9. Press Next.

10. Press "Have Disk".

Under "Copy manufacturer's files from:" press the "Browse" button.

Navigate to the directory to which you extracted the driver earlier and
select "DKAATC40" (.inf)
(NOTE - by default this file will conveniently be located in c:/dell/Drivers/convXLdrivers/print/win_2kxp.)
Press Open,
and OK.

11. Select "Dell Laser Printer 5310n" and press "Next."

You may be prompted to authorize system changes - if so, press "Continue."
The final setup process may take a minute or two. Wait patiently and then the setup will be complete.
