INN-Reach Release Notes

2002 Phase 2

staff notes added in red text

  1. WebOPAC INN-Reach holdings display
Display Individual record; select link to display “… libraries have this item”

With conversion to release 2002 phase 2, the WebOPAC will automatically change to an improved and customizable display for the INN-Reach holdings display. In addition to data field customization, the new format is more attractive, effective and makes more efficient use of screen real estate. To reflect the existing display, initial setup was completed by the Union Database Services department. An example of the new display is shown below:

For more examples illustrating multiple owning sites and locations, look at other titles in Link+.

As displayed above, the site summary listing was changed to a vertical alphabetic listing rather than the current horizontal display.

In addition, the first column of data must be defined as an institution or agency. Otherwise, all other columns are optional.

The order of holdings within the table (“within the table”: the order of rows displayed for an institution, starting at the top) are as follows:

1)      URL from institution record

2)      Checkin records

3)      Item records

4)      Order record (only if no attached checkin or item records).

Beyond the initial setup, further customization of the display may be defined to include:

·        Table attributes (i.e. colors, cell padding and spacing) of the detailed holdings display and summary holdings display tables. Also allows for the suppression of the library summary holdings display table.

·        Number of columns, all column headers, and column widths in the detailed holdings display table.

·        Record (i.e. item, order, checkin) subfield data display and basic column formatting of that display.

·        Basic column formatting for an institution record-level URL in the holdings display.

·        Location name hyperlinks for holdings records in the detailed holdings display table. For example, a location may be link the user to a screen providing information about the corresponding library.  (yes/no option to use hotlinks; if yes, requires initial linking decisions and ongoing maintenance)

·        Holdings display text, if there is a holdings field in the bibliographic record for an institution or agency but there are no associated displayable item, checkin, or order records.  (i.e. “No local information available” may be customized to use some other phrase)

These wwwoptions and their application are fully defined within “INN-Reach Display and Behavior Options” on page 105313 of the INNOPAC User Manual.

NOTE: these enhancements are not reflected in the character-based OPAC system.

2.     Individual record display and Summary Holdings page

In addition to the holdings display, the following buttons may now be defined on the bibliographic record display screen:

·        BUT_IR_HOLDINGS. This option defines the button image for the “<number> libraries have this item” link. (a button could be designed by ORCA, or use III link format)

·        BUT_IR_REQUEST. This option defines the button image for the "Request this Item" link on the full record and holdings displays.

These wwwoptions and their application are not yet documented in the INNOPAC USER MANUAL.  --February 4, 2003

Also note there is now a choice for the phrase used with the link to consortium holdings. The choice is between two message types:

A. 1 <NAME> library has this item or # <NAME> libraries have this item

where <NAME> is the consortium name and # is the number of libraries holding the item.

B. Display holdings of <NAME> Libraries

  1. WebOPAC affiliated institution screen.

(Flexibility to change phrase was added in response to requests from public library groups. We are unaware of complaints or difficulty understanding the phrase from Orbis and Cascade patrons. Consider consulting with Borrowing group representatives.)

With release 2002 phase 2, the phrase “With which institution are you affiliated?” displayed upon a patron request, is now customizable in the WebOPAC for the INN-Reach catalog.

The wwwoption INSTITUTIONLABEL controls the ability to change the text of the phrase “With which institution are you affiliated?” and allows for the use of HTML tags. Not using this wwwoption defaults to the phrase “With which institution are you affiliated?”
