Charge

The Shared Storage Task Force (SSTF) is charged with advising Council on the feasibility and advisability

of creating a shared storage facility for library materials.

Issues to consider include

- Purpose: storage, staff workspace, reading room, etc.

- Potential use by libraries in Oregon and Washington

- Facility ownership vs. leasing

- Geographic location

- Operation by consortium vs. contracting with a vendor

- Policies: participation by non-member libraries, collection development, types of materials, multiple

copies, standards for cataloging & holdings, etc.

- Legal issues (e.g., out-of-state storage of library materials)

- Technology for shelving & retrieval including INN-Reach implications & Ariel

- Cost: start-up & recurring costs, potential sources of funding, cost distribution. Meeting minutes should

be produced and distributed to task force members and Orbis staff for placement on the Web and

distribution to Council.

Timeline

SSTF is an ad hoc group charged with submitting a progress report to Council by July 2004.

Funding

Council encourages maximum use of email in conjunction with Orbis-funded meetings (see funding policy).

Requests for additional funding or staff support should be presented to the Orbis Council or Executive

Committee.
