The Media Services Educational Video Group originates and receives
distance education courses offered at the UO's branch campuses and
partner sites worldwide. Supported technologies include satellite,
compressed video, and IP teleconferencing. Live, two-way, high resolution
broadcasts nearly replicate on-site delivery.
The primary origination site, Studio A ( 36 Knight Library), is equipped
with five large monitors, two remote control cameras, microphones for
presenter and audience, VCR, visualizer (document camera), ethernet
connection for access to the Internet, phone and fax lines, projection
screen, and computer-to-video scan convertor. Other equipment can be
added depending on the needs of a particular course. Media Services staff
also coordinate receive-site equipment and support at the UO's branch
campuses.
If you are a UO instructor interested in offering a telecourse, please
call at least 2 full terms in advance to ensure availability and
discuss your course requirements and training needs with Media Services
staff. It is important to recognize that existing courses may
require significant restructuring for the distance environment. We work
closely with the Center For Educational Technologies and Teaching
Effectiveness Program to coordinate instructional design and faculty
training to ensure pedagogical, interpersonal, technical and logistical
success.
In addition, the library has recently deployed a streaming media server platform called the Tandberg Content Server. The TCS allows courses utilizing the Tanberg codecs to use the following features:
- Live and on-demand streaming
- Archiving of video calls
- Simple content creation and retrieval
- Stream and archive dual stream video
- Compatible with major streaming formats
