Requests

Students, Faculty & Staff of the Oregon University System who are doing academic research may request to view aerial photography on-site and free of charge. Requests can be placed in person at the Document Center desk, via e-mail, or by fax. Smaller sites (less than an area of 2 square miles) will be processed within three business days. Patrons will be notified once the photos have been retrieved and should come to the Document Center Desk . Photos will be held for 1 week. Photos in high demand may be requested by other patrons, so it is highly recommended that patrons view the photos as soon as possible after the request has been filled. Aerial photography research is conducted Monday through Friday.

We have posted 1 photo per decade of central campus here.

E-mail and Fax requests

E-mail requests are most efficient, however in person requests and faxes are also acceptable. All photo requests must include a map, unless arrangements are made with MAP staff. Academic Photo requests need to include the following:

Patron Name
University ID Number
Contact information - phone or email
Time frame of interest
Description of the site (no lat/long, please)
Map of the site

E-mail requests directly to the Aerial Photography Coordinator, Colin Kelly: map@uoregon.edu.

Acceptable maps are of a reasonable scale to identify the site and show context. 7.5 minute topographic maps and local area road maps are highly recommended. Please do not send tax lot maps. For e-mail requests a map must be attached to the e-mail. Please make the map a small file in a .jpg format. See our sample maps.

Circulation

Aerial Photography does not circulate. Class sets of duplicate images have been created and circulate to faculty for in class instruction. Please contact the Aerial Photography Coordinator to learn more about class sets. Patrons are welcome to view photography in the library, and to bring in a reasonable amount of equipment for viewing and reproducing images (within fair use copyright law). See below for information about reproducing images.

Duplication

An 11x17 flatbed scanner is available for University of Oregon affiliates in the GIS Lab in the MAP collection. Time must be reserved to use the GIS computers. Please see the GIS Lab policies. The MAP collection a high quality black and white copier. Researchers from other OUS institutions frequently bring portable scanners and laptops to do their own scanning. Scanning by MAP Library staff will be considered commercial research.
