USGS Topographic Map Sets in the MAP Library

Current topo maps

The United States Geologic Survey has produced many different sorts of topographic maps throughout its history. There are three main sets of topographic maps currently in use:

  • 7.5' quadrangles at 1:24,000 (lower 48 states plus larger sheets for Hawaii)
  • 1° x 30' quadrangles at 1:100,000 scale. (covers entire US)
  • 1° x 2° quadrangles at 1:250,000 (covers entire US)

The UO MAP Library has a complete collection of these sets in print.  All three sets also can now be freely downloaded as PDFs directly from the USGS website.

Historic Oregon Topos

In addition, we have historic collections of topographic maps of Oregon. The links below lead to complete inventories of these maps, which are available for request at the Info/Research Desk on the first floor of Knight Library.

Historic Metro Series

The MAP Library has an extensive collection of older USGS topographic maps of US Cities. Please ask at the Research/Info Desk or contact the MAP/GIS Librarian for more information.

County series

In the 1980s the USGS produced a series of 1:100,000 topographic maps using county boundaries as the organizing principle. These maps are part of our General Map collection and each county has its own individual call number, however they are all grouped together near G 3701.
