In partnership with other members of the UO GIS community, the Map Library's GIS Service seeks to provide easy access to GIS data by students, faculty and staff of the University of Oregon, through the following activities:
The GIS lab is intended for scholarly use by students, faculty and staff of the University of Oregon and Oregon University System institutions. First priority on the use of the lab is given to these users. Non-UO/OUS users of Map Library resources may use the lab when the lab and GIS staff are available, by pre-arrangement with the Map Librarian or the Head of the Document Center.
The GIS Lab is located on the first floor of the Knight Library on the University of Oregon Campus. The lab is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Assistance is available by appointment.
If you wish to reserve one of the computers in the lab for use, please contact the Documents Center Reference Desk at 346-3070. Alternately you can contact the GIS Lab directly at 346-1971 or by email. You can also drop by the Documents Reference desk, located on the first floor of Knight Library to sign up for either computer.
Patrons may use their own data in the lab, however due to storage constraints such data will be deleted after one week. For special projects or circumstances, please consult staff. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own disks. The GIS Lab does not sell or provide disks, however, the main Circulation Desk on the first floor of the Knight Library does sell CDs and floppy disks.
Patrons can obtain color prints from the GIS Lab, via the Knight Library Information Technology Center (ITC) on the second floor of the Library. Black and white printouts can be accessed through the Documents Kiosk in the Documents Center, next to the MAP Collection. Campus Cash will be needed to access printers. University of Oregon Faculty, Staff, and Students are permitted to use the Lab Scanner for academic purposes only.
Library Patrons who are not affiliated with the Oregon University System and want scanned aerial photography should contact the Aerial Photography Research Service at (541) 346-4565.
No drinking or eating is allowed in the GIS/Imaging Lab. The lab will be kept locked at all times when not in use.
Please see our GIS Lab set-up page about hardware and software available for the computers, this will help you in signing up for a computer.
