Where can I find out more about the University of Oregon Libraries?

The University Library System is a large, complex organization offering a wide variety of collections and services.

How many libraries are in the University of Oregon Library System?

Libraries in the Library System may be found in five different buildings on campus, though the Library also has numerous collections and departments within the central library building, the Knight Library. These five library locations are the Knight Library, Science Library, Architecture and Allied Arts Library, Mathematics Library, and the Law Library, housed at the UO Law School. Additionally, there are two libraries off campus: the OIMB Library in Charleston, OR, and the Portland Architecture Library in Portland, OR.

Where is the Knight Library located?

The Library is located on the west side of the University on Kincaid Street--just off the corner of Kincaid and 15th Ave.

Where are the other libraries in the Library System located?

I notice other locations for library materials in the catalog. How do I know where they are?

I am from out of town. How can I get to the Library?

From Eugene Airport (EUG):
Follow Highway 99 until it becomes Seventh Avenue. Get in the right lane and follow Franklin Boulevard to Alder Street. Turn right onto Alder and left onto 15th Avenue. Proceed to Kincaid Ave. The Library will be right off the corner of 15th and Kincaid.
From I-5 Southbound:
From I-5 South, take Exit 194B. Take exit 2, keep left and follow the signs to the UO. Proceed in the left lane over the Ferry Street Bridge, exiting onto Broadway, which becomes Franklin Boulevard. Follow Franklin Boulevard to Alder St. Turn right onto Alder and left onto 15th Avenue. Proceed to Kincaid Ave. The Library will be right off the corner of 15th and Kincaid.
From I-5 Northbound:
From I-5 North, take Exit 192. Merge onto Franklin Boulevard. After merging, get in left lane and follow Franklin Boulevard to Alder Street. Turn left onto Alder and left onto 15th Avenue. Proceed to Kincaid Ave. The Library will be right off the corner of 15th and Kincaid.
From Highway 126 East (Oregon Coast):
Follow Highway 126 East until it becomes West 11th Avenue. Follow West 11th Avenue to Garfield Street and turn left. Take Garfield to 7th Avenue and turn right. Get in the right lane and follow 7th Avenue until it becomes Franklin Boulevard. Follow Franklin Boulevard and turn right onto Alder and left onto 15th Avenue. Proceed to Kincaid Ave. The Library will be right off the corner of 15th and Kincaid.

Where can I park?

Parking is available at metered spots outside the Library on Kincaid. You also may want to try 15th and 14th Aves. If you want information about campus visitor parking lots, try the Information Kiosk located at 13th Avenue and Beech Street. To get to the Kiosk from the Knight Library, follow Kincaid Ave. to 11th Ave. (Vehicles cannot proceed down 13th Ave. from Kincaid Ave.) Turn right and stay in the right lane as 11th runs into Franklin Boulevard. Turn right onto Agate and right again onto 13th Avenue. Proceed to the Information Kiosk.

Where is the card catalog?

The card catalog is located on the second floor of the Knight Library near Current Periodicals. Please use the online UO Library Catalog for the most up to date information about the Library's holdings. Special Collections has its own card catalog.

How can I check out films or videos that the Library owns? Where are these housed? Is there equipment for viewing these resources?

The Video Collection (which contains videotapes, DVDs, and laser discs) is located in Reserves and Videos, room 101 of the Knight Library. Also in that room are viewers for this media. 16mm films are housed and viewed in the Knight Library's Media Services Department, located on the ground floor.

Where are the restrooms in Knight Library?

Restrooms are available on every floor of the Knight Library. Please ask for assistance or consult one of the library maps for each individual floor.

Where are the elevators in Knight Library?

Elevators are available on every floor of the Knight Library. Please ask for assistance or pick up a map at a service desk.

Where are newspapers located?

Current newspapers are located on the second floor of the Knight Library in Current Periodicals.

Where are issues of journals located?

Current periodicals or unbound issues of journals are located on the second floor of the Knight Library. Other collections and departments have their own current periodical displays. Back issues of journals, or bound volumes, are located in the stacks with the books. Bound volumes are shelved according to their call number, except for journals in the Science Library which are shelved alphabetically by title. To determine if the Library subscribes to a journal, look by journal title in the UO Library Catalog or ask a reference librarian for assistance.

Where are encyclopedias located?

Encyclopedias are shelved by their call number. Recent editions of several major encyclopedias may be found in the Reference Department, Knight Library. You may also consult an electronic version of the Encyclopedia Britannica.

Where are microfilm and microfiche?

Microfilm is available in the Microforms Department, located on the first floor of the Knight Library.

Where are the computers for typing papers? Where is the Instructional Technology Center or ITC?

The Library has two Information Technology Centers, one on the second floor of the Knight Library and one in the Science Library in the basement of the Onyx Bridge building.

Where are the computers for doing research and searching the Internet located in the Library?

The largest bank of computers is in the main reference area of the Knight Library. There are also computers in the AAA, Science, Mathematics, Law, and MAP libraries, and on other floors of the Knight Library.

Where is the lost and found in the library?

For lost and found items, please inquire at the Office of the Librarian or phone the Office at 541/346-3056, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

I need to use a phone. Where are the public phones located?

In the Knight Library, public phones are available in the locations below. Please ask at the Circulation Desk if you have trouble locating them.
  • Main Floor near east entrance: one pay phone and one campus phone
  • Main Floor near west entrance, just outside Office of the Librarian: three pay phones
  • Main Floor near Library Copy Service, to the right of the Circulation Desk: two pay phones and one campus phone, wheelchair accessible
  • Ground Floor inside Daily Grind: one pay phone, wheelchair accessible
  • Ground Floor across from Media Services Desk: one campus phone
