The Reference Desk is located on the 2d floor, near the Checkout/Reserve/Information Desk. During reference hours, there is a reference librarian available to assist with research strategies, and the location and use of information sources. The telephone number for Reference is 346-1654.
The Reference Desk is staffed during the regular academic year, beginning the day Fall Semester classes begin. Hours during the regular academic year are:
Monday - Wednesday: 10am - 8pm
Thursday: 10am - 5pm
Friday: 1pm - 5pm
Sunday: 12Noon - 5pm
During Summer and at other times when the Reference Desk is not staffed, Library users should ask at the Checkout/Reserve/Information Desk to determine the availability of reference help.
Law students and faculty are also encouraged to consult with librarians by appointment.
Reference help is available from law librarians by emailing lawref@uoregon.edu.
Reference help is available from law librarians via IM during the law library's reference desk hours when possible. Our screen/buddy names are:
AIM: uolawref
Yahoo: uolawref
MSN: uolawref@hotmail.com
IM is best used for questions with brief answers. As appropriate, longer or more complex reference transactions may be continued by phone or email, or in person with a librarian.
The Law Reference Collection is located behind the Reference Desk, and consists of dictionaries, directories, encyclopedias, handbooks and some bibliographies. Material in this collection can be found in the UO Library Catalog, marked as "LawRef".
The reference staff cannot interpret or explain the law to you or advise you on what laws apply to your situation. We cannot give such legal advice because it would constitute the unauthorized practice of law.
