Library's Forgotten Films Series Continues on Fridays This Term - (April 28, 2009)
Please join us for another round of 16mm gems on Fridays in May over the noon(ish) hour. We'll be indulging in some of the longer films in the collection. All screenings will be in Proctor 42 in Knight Library.

Utopian Community Expert Jim Kopp Reads Mon., May 11 - (April 27, 2009)
Author Jim Kopp will share readings from his book Eden Within Eden: Oregon's Utopian Heritage, Monday, May 11, at 7 p.m. in the Knight Library Browsing Room. Kopp's book is a study of planned and realized utopian communities in Oregon, beginning with the Aurora Colony in 1856.

2009 Greenfield Awards Announced - (April 21, 2009)
The UO Libraries is pleased to announce the purchase of critical research resources through the 2009 Stanley B. Greenfield Awards. The Greenfield Awards benefit the university by funding the purchase of expensive, noteworthy, or specialized items that will directly support faculty research and teaching.

Keynote speaker Scott Coltrane, dean of the UO College of Arts and Sciences, and five other guests will discuss the versatile skills that a liberal arts degree provides.

Knight Library Exhibit Celebrates 100 Years of the UO Marching Band - (April 17, 2009)
In honor of the centennial of the founding of the Oregon Marching Band, a comprehensive exhibit of the band and its precursors is on display in Knight Library at the University of Oregon.

Community Conversations Series Returns for Spring - (April 15, 2009)
This spring Community Conversations will cover topics ranging from the music industry in the digital age, to the green economy, to a look behind the scenes of the Robinson University Theater.

April 21 Event Examines the Psychological Roots of Misbehavior - (April 15, 2009)
Barbara Jenkins, director of instruction and campus partnerships for the UO Libraries, explores the psychological roots of misbehavior in her presentation, "Are You Self-Centered, Self-Serving, and Disparaging of Others?" on Tuesday, April 21, at 7 p.m. in Straub 146.

Drop-In Advising Available at Knight Library Beginning April 22 - (April 15, 2009)
Visit Room 147A in Knight Library on Wednesday nights between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. during any of the next five weeks and you can get some free, expert advice on your academic status and progress. The UO's Office of Academic Advising and the UO Libraries are teaming up to provide drop-in academic advising during spring term.

Film Mashups to Screen in Knight Library, Thursday, Apr. 16 - (April 13, 2009)
Twenty students in Richard Herskowitz's experimental film class (English 399) went to work on a 1930s traffic safety film from the Prelinger Archive entitled WHY NOT LIVE? They recut the film and added other original and found footage and music. The incredibly varied and strong result, WHY NOT LIVE? THE (S)MASHUPS, will screen on Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Proctor 41 in Knight Library. The original film will be shown, followed by the mashups.

Taste of Russia Film and Food Series Continues Friday, May 1 - (April 12, 2009)
Taste of Russia is a series of events aimed at educating the public about Russian and Soviet culture through cinema and cuisine. The final movie in the Taste of Russia Film and Food Series will be Sudba Cheloveka (Fate of a Man) (1959), directed by Sergei Bondarchuk. It will be shown at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 1, in Earl Residence Hall, International House Kitchen and Classroom 2. The menu will include pirogi (Russian pies) and dolma (stuffed vegetables).
