Each year, the UO Libraries joins the international library community to participate in Open Access Week and call attention to the importance of open access in creating improved access to academic scholarship and research. This years Open Access Week is scheduled for October 24-30 and will feature events at campuses throughout the world.

The Right to Research Coalition will offer a series of live webcasts focusing on critical issues in Open Access during the week of October 24-30. Registration for the webcasts is free and is open to anyone. Click here for registration and more information.
Monday, October 24. 5 p.m PDT. The State of Open Access and the Student Role in Creating Change.
Heather Joseph, executive director of the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC), will speak on the current state of Open Access and the importance of students in making open the new norm in scholarly publishing. The webcast will also feature Goldis Chami, a medical student at the University of British Columbia, who will detail her experience leading the charge for a campus open-access policy at her university and give tips on how students can be most effective in advocating for Open Access on campus.
Wednesday, October 26. 9 a.m PDT. Open Access and the Impact of Open on Research.
John Wilbanks, a senior fellow at the Kauffman Foundation and the former vice president for science at Creative Commons, will discuss Open Access and how open has the power to transform research. This webcast will also feature Goldis Chami (see above).
Earlier Events
Friday and Saturday, October 14-15, Knight Law Center. Feminist Publishing in the Digital Age: A Symposium. Sponsored by the Center for the Study of Women in Society, College of Arts and Sciences, School of Architecture and Allied Arts, and the UO Libraries, this symposium will cover topics of interest to the open access community, including peer review and multimodal publishing.
