UO Undergraduate Research Symposium Set for Thurs., May 24, in the EMU - (May 21, 2012)
One of the strengths of receiving an undergraduate education at the University of Oregon is the opportunity to conduct original research and present and disseminate the results. The second annual UO Undergraduate Research Symposium, scheduled for Thursday, May 24, throughout the day in the EMU, enables students to share their ideas, discoveries, and artistic expression with the campus and local community.

Library Names Solari Award and High Jump Award Winners for 2012 - (May 18, 2012)
Science and Technical Services Librarian Annie Zeidman-Karpinski has received the Mary Corrigan Solari Library Fellowship Award, and Lara Nesselroad, manager of the Science and Math Libraries, and Avis Traver, search and special processes clerk in the Science Library, have been named Library High Jump Award winners.

Oregon Undergraduate Research Journal Celebrates 1-Year Anniversary - (May 18, 2012)
On Monday, May 21, at 4 p.m. in Knight Library's Browsing Room, undergraduates interested in learning more about publishing their research in an open-access, peer-reviewed journal run by other UO undergraduates are welcomed to join in a celebration of the one-year anniversary of the Oregon Undergraduate Research Journal (OUR Journal), which showcases some of the best research and publications by UO undergraduates.

May 17 Talk Addresses Open Education and Challenges to Higher Ed - (May 15, 2012)
David Wiley, nationally recognized scholar, teacher, and expert on open education, will speak in Knight Library’s Browsing Room at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 17. The lecture is presented as part of the Philip H. Knight Dean of Libraries Distinguished Speaker Series.

Digital Scholar to Speak at UO Wed., May 16 - (May 14, 2012)
Julia Flanders, director of the Women Writers Project at Brown University will speak on “Making Digital Humanities Count” at 4 p.m. on Wed., May 16, in Knight Library’s Browsing Room.

Exhibit Showcases Russian and East European Arts on the World Stage - (May 13, 2012)
An exhibit offering a look into the world of art and culture as represented in ballet, theater, literature, and cinema in Russia and Eastern Europe is on display in the entryway corridors to Knight Library. Entitled "Russian and East European Arts, World Stage," the display is being held in conjunction with a Russian and East European conference running May 17-19 at the UO.

Free 16 MM Film Screenings This Friday, May 18 - (May 12, 2012)
A free public screening of the 16mm film version of the animated short Flashpoint (National Film Board of Canada, 1977) and Orson Welles’ noir classic Touch of Evil (1958) will be held on May 18 at 7 p.m. in 180 PLC. The screening, is part of the Film on Film series, which presents unique cinema experiences on 16mm and 35mm film.

Library Hosts May 8 Talk on Transgender Topics - (May 7, 2012)
A talk entitled "Transgender: Education, Allyship, and Celebration" will be held in Knight Library's Browsing Room at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8. Valyn Faer, a student assistant in the library's Lending Services unit, will offer her perspectives on the topic. The event is free; everyone is invited to attend.

Win $100 in the Library's Digital Wallpaper Design Competition, Deadline 5/31 - (May 4, 2012)
If you're a currently enrolled UO student, here's your chance to put your digital design skills to work and win $100 in the process. The UO Libraries is staging a Library Digital Wallpaper Design Competition for creating a wallpaper design for the monitor screens on the public workstations in all campus libraries. The deadline for submitting your entry is May 31, 2012.

Music Services Mounts Sherzi Musicale Exhibit in Knight Library - (April 27, 2012)
The display cases for Music Services on the third floor of Knight Library sample the richness of humor found in music-related collections held by the UO Libraries. Musical jokes as conveyed through printed works, vocal comedy ranging from Bach cantatas (yes!) to novelty tunes, and instrumental wit showing how instruments and instrumental music convey humor are all part of the show. Note: Outbursts of laughter are allowed in the library while viewing this exhibit.
