Searching Année philologique

The following are sample screens with comments to help you navigate Année philologique's search interface. For further help please ask at the Reference Desk or contact , jenkins@uoregon.edu, Medieval Studies & History Librarian.

Search Criteria Tips

Modern Author: Search last name only, then narrow
Full Text: Searches the full citation entry, not the full text of the article
Ancient Author: Ancient Greek authors are entered with their Latin equivalent. e.g. Homer=Homerus. Also note that in Latin names "v\" is written as "u\" unless it is an initial "V\". Fortunately, when the search is run, the name is automatically truncated, so Latin endings shouldn't be a problem.
Subjects and Disciplines: Uses broad headings, click the to see sub-headings
Date: Allows searching by date of modern publication
Other Criteria: Includes language, words in titles, etc.
- Languages: Articles appear in many European languages. Limit search by language using Other Criteria--Language. If the title and abstract are in English, the original is in English, too. Sometimes articles with Greek or Latin titles are in English, too.

Search History Tips

Delete a search term/criteria: Uncheck a box and click Recalculate the total
Combine more than one term: Select the boxes and click Combine
See results of a non-combined search: Click the result number link for that query
Total: automatically shows combined total

Abbreviated Journal Titles

Expanded titles: The online version often gives the full titles when you mouse over the abbreviation. (See image below)

Non-expanded titles: If it doesn't expand the title, see the print version (REF KNIGHT Z7016.A5) or try other libraries' sites linked below.
