EndNote: Exporting/Importing from OCLC (FirstSearch)

Direct Export: OCLC (FirstSearch)

NOTE: You must be searching the database on the same computer that has the EndNote program.

  • From an OCLC database, mark records to keep and click the Export button
  • Be certain that the Marked records from this search button is checked
  • Select EndNote and click the Export button.
  • EndNote will open, and you will be prompted to open an EndNote library. You will then be prompted to choose an import filter. Choose the corresponding filter (e.g., WorldCat (OCLC)). If you don't see the filter, you can download it from EndNote's Support & Services Web page.

Saving records for importing: OCLC (FirstSearch)

Note: With this method you will be saving records from a database in text format and then importing them into EndNote. You do not need to search and save items from the database on the same computer that has EndNote program.

  • From an OCLC database, mark records
  • Click on Marked Records
  • Records will appear in brief format (citation only). If you want abstracts, choose Detailed View
  • Click on Print
  • Citations will appear
  • A print box will open. Click on Cancel
  • Use your browser's File, and Save As features. Be certain that file is saved in text (*.txt) format
  • When importing to EndNote be sure to use appropriate filter
