Eligibility is limited to UO faculty, staff and to the staff of UO affiliates. Individuals not affiliated with the University of Oregon are not eligible to create exhibits within the University of Oregon Libraries. UO affiliates include campus, regional, national or international organizations and associations such as the Peace Corps, the Women's Law Forum, or the Ecological Design Center. Please contact the Chair of the Exhibits Committee for further information about this policy.
Please provide contact information in the spaces provided. This information is required as the Exhibits Committee will respond to your proposal, and if approved, will need to communicate with you about crucial exhibit business.
Please let us know if you are working with a librarian or staff member on this exhibit. If the answer is no, the Exhibits Committee will assign a staff member to help you plan and execute the exhibit. Likewise, if you do not yet have a team of individuals to help create the exhibit, the Exhibits Committee strongly encourages you to assemble a team of colleagues for this purpose. Exhibits are a great deal of work and are ideally a collaborative effort.

Refer to the current Call for Proposals to determine the terms for which we are currently seeking exhibit proposals. Exact dates for installation and removal of exhibits will change from year to year, and may be subject to some negotiation. Negotiation will take place after exhibitions are approved and through communication between the exhibit proposer and the Exhibits Committee. Once dates are set, they will be firm and will not be subject to change.
Fall proposal deadlines are for exhibits that will be mounted in the following Summer term and the Fall term of the next academic year. Spring proposal deadlines are for exhibits that will be mounted in the Winter and Spring terms of the next academic year. Proposals are requested with sufficient lead time for the Exhibits Committee to approve of a calendar, and for the exhibit proposers to have adequate time to prepare their exhibits. Exhibits require a considerable amount of planning and effort. The Exhibits Committee encourages successful applicants to allow ample time for this activity.
If there is an event on campus, in Eugene, or nationally that you believe would make a good subject for an exhibition, the Exhibits Committee requests that you provide an explanation of the event and your exhibit. Does your exhibit support this event, present an alternate viewpoint, or provide an historical perspective? If you know of an event that is planned for a future date and have plans to propose an exhibit when the appropriate call for proposals is given, the Exhibits Committee encourages you to let us know in advance so that we can watch for your proposal at the appropriate time. Email the Exhibits Committee.

COPYRIGHT
If images are being reproduced, they must either fall within the public domain, or you must obtain permission from the copyright holder to reproduce them. The Exhibits Committee strongly recommends that you seek works in the public domain, as obtaining copyright permission can be a lengthy and sometimes costly procedure. To determine whether an image is in the public domain, consult When Works Pass into the Public Domain. This useful chart is produced by Lolly Gassaway at the University of North Carolina You may also wish to consult LAW KF3022.Z9 F57 2001 Fishman, Stephen. The public domain : how to find copyright-free writings, music, art & more. Berkeley, CA : Nolo.com, 2001for assistance in locating images in the public domain.
Additional information about copyright, especially as it concerns images and the display of images can be found at the Copyright and Image Management pages by Georgia Harper, copyright specialist in the Office of General Counsel at the University of Texas. Ms. Harper has created a Crash Course in Copyright which has several very helpful sections for exhibitors. "Who Owns What?" provides help with determining who holds the copyright to a specific image
If the image that you wish to present is still protected by copyright, please consult with the Exhibits Committee.

The exhibit space consists of four vertical wall cases located in the two east and west corridors between the Circulation and the Reference areas in Knight Library. If you are interested in any of the other display cases located in Knight Library or in the Library branches, please contact the responsible persons as indicated on the chart on our main page.
The cases have a slightly curved back, and a flat front. Each case consists of three panels. Each panel measures 54 1/2" tall x 35" wide. The entire case is 108 1/2" wide on the flat outer edge. The side panel area has a depth of 7 1/2" at the narrow, outer edge and 11 1/4" at the wider inner edge. The center panel has only 1/2" depth variation and is 10" deep at the edges, and 10 1/2" deep at the center. The discrepancy in depth between the inner edges of the side panels and the sides of the center panel is due to the fact that the center panel of glass is set in deeper than the side pieces.
There are 12 glass shelves that fit the center panels and 24 that fit the side panels.
There are 25 wire book display supports. There are no other display equipment. If special display equipment is needed, please describe it in the space provided on the proposal form.
The display cabinets are not climate controlled.
Exhibits should be of sufficient size and scope to fill all four glass display cases. Exhibitors should plan carefully to create an exhibit that is neither too crowded nor too spare. Exhibits should be visually dynamic, and ideally incorporate both two and three- dimensional objects.
