At least one page has been torn out and the last remaining page--about four are gone beyond it--is unnumbered. Here the rider of page 24 appears once more. He is afoot; the rump of a horse, though shaggier than his earlier steed, is seen behind him. He is engaged in a fire fight with two foes, over whom he towers. They are Sioux, says Philip Guyer, as attested by their hair dress, parted in the middle, and the erect feather. One of them lies dead at his feet, with coupstick or wiper in hand. The second one runs up, firing as he comes.
