Thanatopsis, A Play in Two Acts. An unpublished skit that spoofed the poker games of the Thanatopsis Pleasure and Inside Straight Club, of which Harold Ross, Alexander Woollcott, Franklin P. Adams, and others of the Algonquin Round Table Crowd were members. The author is probably Alexander Woollcott. The Thanatopsis, as it was usually called, was a poker club that got its start in France during World War I, and continued in New York in the 1920s. Jane Grant Papers, Coll. 41.
