Transcribed TextDec 9th, 1908 Carrie Chapman Catt, My Dear Mrs. Catt: After getting your favor of 28th ult. I had an interview with Mrs. Sarah A. Evans, who has more political sagacity than any of us. She decided, and I heartily concur that it would be unfortunate to attempt to circulate another suffrage petition in Oregon at this time. We have a fair prospect for securing a Citizens' Suffrage bill, by enactment, before the Legislation, in February. If we succeed in this, the Amendment now on, (and to which we owe our [...] prospect for success before the Legislature) will be recalled in an Amendment substitution, for full suffrage in 1910, provided conditions continue favorable. It would require a deposit of $1,000 in cash to get 20,000 signatures inside of six weeks. A lesser number would only expose our weakness and spoil the effort of our work in hand. Respectfully, Yours for Liberty, "ABIGAIL SCOTT DUNIWAY |
