The Society for American Baseball
Research (SABR)
Baseball has long been a sport that inspires the
desire to learn more about it. The Society for American
Baseball Research was established in Cooperstown,
New York in August of 1971 as a grassroots effort
of fans of the game. SABR’s goal is to foster
the research and dissemination of the history and
record of baseball while generating interest in the
game. The organization now has over 7,000 members
worldwide and publishes two research journals: The
National Pastime and The Baseball Research Journal,
as well as a number of books on the sport. Its membership
includes academics, journalists, and baseball executives
as well as everyday fans of the game.
