The Tour

Blake Scott

The Earl Mack All Star tour of 1932 consisted of 17 games with the majority played in Canada. The team didn't lose a game- not a surprise given that at the time these were some of the best players in the world. Some members played with another all star team against the Brooklyn Bushwicks before heading out west. They met with the rest of the team in Chicago at the 3rd game of the World Series between the Cubs and the Yankees- known for Babe Ruth's "called shot" home run- and from there went by train to Sioux Fall S.D. to begin the tour in earnest. It was at the forth game of the tour in Devil's Lake, N.D. that my ball was signed. All total they traveled over 4700 miles, mostly by train in their private Pullman coach, but they did charter a plane to fly from Winnipeg to Fargo and back again. Many of the players were interested in hunting both during and after the tour and considering Prohibition in the U.S. wasn't repealed until April, 1933 I'm sure there were libations along the way as well!
