Spring 2007 Meeting Minutes DIGOR Spring Meeting Friday, April 19, 2007 OLA Annual Conference, Oregon State University, Corvallis Submitted by Pamela Roberts, DIGOR Secretary Present: Kelly Peterson (Chair), Oregon Institute of Technology; Pamela Roberts (Secretary), Eugene Public Library; Laura Ayling (Lewis and Clark); Valery King (Oregon State University); Crystal Knapp (Oregon State Library); Ted Smith (University of Oregon); Tom Stave (University of Oregon); Alex Toth (Pacific University); Jey Wann (Oregon State Library); Arlene Weible (Oregon State Library); Melissa Harley (Oregon State Library Kelly Peterson called the meeting to order and distributed copies of Exporting Repository Records with Item Records Automatically Attached into Millennium (III) by Hsiu-Ling Lin and Chris Haupt, both of (OIT). The information is also available electronically and will be on the Oregon State Library website. Those present corrected and then approved the September 15, 2006 meeting minutes. Arlene updated the group on the shared regional Federal Depository Library program. Oregon State Library now has regional status, and the State Library Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding of formal housing agreements. Lawyers from the participating sites (Oregon State Library, Oregon State University, the University of Oregon and Portland State University) are cooperatively reviewing and considering the details, prior to approval by library directors. The Memorandum of Understanding divided collections by Superintendent of Documents classes. The map collection location and a process for discarding materials both need to be decided, hopefully by October, 2007. OSL is the program coordinator. OSL has applied for membership in Summit, while Washington State Library decided not to purse membership. Jey explained that OSL Centennial Year Plan proposes a meeting between depository libraries and state agencies to discuss geo-spatial needs and agency level progress toward document compatible. Public schools and community colleges are interested in having some curriculum to introduce students to government documents. Melissa suggested the use of existing kits for educators such as the Water Education Kit. Federal websites such as Bureau of Indian Affairs and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Weather have kid-friendly sections. Deb Holland has done things like this. Oregon Educational Media Association (school librarians) Conference might be interested in this project. August 15, 2007 is the deadline for program proposals for the Oregon Library Association/Washington Library Association 2008 Joint Conference in Vancouver, Washington, April 16-18. Arlene will contact the E Government program (EGOV) and explore conference or pre-conference topics. Another possibility is collaboration with the OLA Legislative Committee on a program focusing on government documents in public libraries. There was a motion to elect unanimously Arlene Weibel as the new DIGOR Chair-Elect, and Pamela Roberts as Secretary. The motion was seconded and carried. Next meeting: Jey is checking on meeting room availability at the Oregon State Library, aiming for a Friday in September. The State Library and DIGOR would share the agenda. She should have a date by May 1. |
