Spring 2006 Meeting Minutes
DIGOR Spring Meeting
Thursday April 6, 2006
OLA Annual Conference, Salem
Reports
Membership and Budget – Laura Ayling
Membership stands currently at 24, three more than last reported. Our budget is reported to be $913.76, but we have an outstanding debt of $50 to OLA for internet access at the conference.
OLA Report – Laura Ayling
DIGOR sponsored two programs, both of which were fairly well attended. “Creating an Oregon Virtual State Documents Repository” presented by Robert Hulshof-Schmidt of OSL had 19 people attend, and “Digital Smorgasbord” presented by Ted Smith (UO), Dorothy Ormes (SOU), Rose Jackson (PSU), John Pollitz (OSU) and Kelly Peterson (OIT) had 28 people attend.
State Library – Jey Wann
The new Legislatively-mandated depository rules went into effect January 1, changing the number of Oregon State depositories to 10. These are: State Library (2), OSU, UO, PSU, Multnomah County (the only public library), EOU, SOU, OIT and Blue Mountain CC. Library of Congress was unhappy to be dropped from the depository list, but have requested that any copies of state documents remaining after depository distribution be sent to them. The last shipping list will be distributed this week; they will be on the web from then on.
Election of Officers
New officers are Kate McGann, OSL as Chair-Elect, and Pam Roberts of Eugene Public as Secretary. Their terms begin September 1.
Old Business
None.
New Business
There was discussion concerning the Regional Library at Portland State University. Judy Andrews will be leaving her position as Regional Librarian by the end of June, and the status of a replacement librarian is unclear. GPO had not been alerted to the situation. There are a lot of rumors and few facts. DIGOR is concerned, and would like to open a dialog and work with PSU’s new library director on the status of the regional depository. The timing actually could be good; with GPO open to development of new models for regional depositories this could be regarded as an opportunity.
ACTION: Arlene volunteered to draft a letter to the PSU library director from DIGOR voicing our concerns and asking to open a dialog, and gather feedback from the DIGOR membership (via the discussion list) and from selectives that may not be on the list; Kelly volunteered to assist.
Announcements
Jey requested DIGOR to find some “sexy documents” to donate to the OLA raffle next year. This would be a good opportunity to show the general library community that documents aren’t all dry and boring!
Fall Meeting
Alex has volunteered the new library at Pacific for our fall meeting. Kelly will work out dates with him; the meeting will likely occur in mid-September.
