Reports

Those present introduced themselves and briefly reported on the major project, problem, or government document issue being faced at their institution.

New Business

ALA and DIGOR support Senate Bill 2695 stating that documents produced by private researchers hired with government funds would no longer be copyright protected. With the Senate adjourning soon, there is little chance the bill will pass.

OLA Programs

The OLA Quarterly publication schedule is set for the next year or so, meaning any DIGOR articles would have to wait until space opens up.

The group wants to have two programs at the OLA conference or pre conference. One
would incorporate the 100th anniversary of the Federal Depository Library Program / Oregon State Library, such as a historian speaks on the history of Oregon documents. The other program would have more practical applications for library staff using government documents. Program names suggested The Changing Face of Government Documents, Best Practices, or Gov Docs 101. Dena Hutto (Reed College) has taught a popular government documents class, and will be asked to teach or participate in developing an OLA program. Arlene suggested an open ___ program.

Round table discussion of the Proposal for a Shared Regional for the Federal Depository Library Program in Oregon, Draft 8/17/2006.

The group discussed the need to share responsibility for government documents, rather than holding them in a central location. In South Carolina, two libraries share Federal Depository Library Program responsibilities. Because GPO approval is needed on multi-state proposals, the Oregon proposal would not include Orbis Cascade Summit.

The members preferred the term “advisory committee” to “coordinating committee”.

The group agreed that representatives from PSU and OSL should discuss transferring regional designation from PSU to OSL and explore selective housing agreements among the participants (OU, OSU, PSU and OSL), focusing on materials published in 2007 forward. PSU has developed lists of areas to be reassigned, and is sharing these with the participants. Representatives from the four institutions plan to meet in November or December 2006.

The meeting adjourned at 3:30.
