Request Form for Videos, DVDs, or Films

The Video Collection is housed in the Reserves and Videos Room in the Knight Library. 16mm films are located in the Media Services Department. The primary function of this collection is for classroom instruction. UO faculty requests to purchase videos, DVDs, and films that are required for classroom use and that may be useful in multiple classroom settings will take priority over other requests.

NOTE: Please do not use this form to order videos for reserve use. Use the Reserve Order form at http://libweb.uoregon.edu/acs_svc/reserveorders.html

The University of Oregon Libraries is not able to purchase the public performance rights for many titles we wish to add to the Video Collection--mostly those titles characterized as "feature-length films." However, we do purchase videos with these rights regularly from certain vendors or distributors. Because we are not able to purchase all of our videos with these rights, then the use of most of the Libraries' videos is limited to "face-to-face" teaching situations. Face-to-face teaching implies use in a classroom where students and teachers are in a classroom together viewing the video. Without the acquisition of public performance rights, the Libraries' videos may not be shown for film festivals, conferences, or other community activities. If we have not already purchased the public performance rights for videos and DVDs, it is up to the organizer of a film festival, etc. to acquire the appropriate rights from the holder. Please contact us first if you wish to organize a film festival using the Libraries' videos or if you want assistance identify those titles with public performance rights. We may be able to provide you with some assistance.

Procedure:

  1. Complete the form below.
  2. Request is reviewed by the head of Acquisitions.
  3. If the item will be added to the library collection, library staff notify the requesting faculty member that an order is being placed. As with any acquisition, video titles may occasionally take from six weeks to six months to order. We ask that you give us at least three weeks' notice prior to the scheduled show date so that we have ample time to order and process the item. Since most of our purchases are for use in a classroom, please let us know the date on which you plan to use the title.
  4. When the item is received, library staff catalog it as quickly as possible, and notify the requestor that it is available.
Please help us by:
  • Filling out the form below as completely as possible.
  • Requesting only one title per form. For multiple titles, submit the form and then return to this page, clear the form, and fill it out for the next title.
  • Planning ahead. Try to place your request at least one term before the scheduled time for showing it.
  • Having backup plans. Provide us with two to three possible dates. With this scheduling flexibility, when a title is not available for the first date, you may still have the opportunity to show it during the term.

As your scheduled date approaches, we advise you to check the UO LIBRARY CATALOG for the title. Please do not hesitate to inform us if you do not find the title listed in the Library Catalog. Contact: Rosemary Nigro, Acquisitions Librarian, at (541) 346-3062 or at rnigro@uoregon.edu
