Learn how to create and publish your own web site!

We can introduce you to the basics of HTML (HyperText Markup Language), to the procedures for publishing your web pages on UO servers, and many advanced web page authoring techniques. We can also help you turn your Microsoft Word or Excel documents into web pages. We can assist you with editing web pages using a text editor such as Pico, BBEdit, or NOTEPAD, or with powerful WYSIWYG web page editors such as Macromedia Dreamweaver.

In addition to HTML authoring, producing a website requires a combination of other skills ranging from image manipulation to site management and often involves the development and incorporation of multimedia materials appropriate to the medium. We'll show you how!

We have multiple web browsers to test web sites. Sometimes a web page works in one web browser and not in others, so it's important to check them out to ensure accessibility on all.
Blackboard
Without knowing any HTML, you can quickly use Blackboard to create your course website. Let us how you how easy it is.
Macromedia Dreamweaver
Macromedia Dreamweaver is the most popular HTML editor on campus. Based on visual layout tools, Dreamweaver provides you with the ability to quickly create and build a web page. For more advanced features, you can insert extensive code such as Javascript and CGI scripts in your HTML file.

Microsoft Office
We can help you to publish your Word document, your Excel spreadsheet, or your PowerPoint presentation to the Web.
Fetch and WS_FTP
These packages allow computers to initiate file transfers using the FTP protocol and enable you to publish files on your local hard drive to the Web. Using a file transfer utility requires that you know which host you want to transfer files from and the directory where the files are located. WS_FTP is for Windows users, Fetch is for Macintosh.
HTMLTidy
When editing HTML it's easy to make mistakes. So wouldn't it be nice if there was a simple way to fix these mistakes automatically and tidy up sloppy editing into properly formatted code? Well now there is! HTML TIDY is a link and syntax checker for managing your pages. It also works great on the atrociously hard-to-read code generated by specialized HTML editors and conversion tools, and can help you identify where you need to pay further attention on making your pages more accessible to people with disabilities.
Adobe Acrobat
Adobe Acrobat software lets you convert any document to an Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) file that can be put on your website. Then almost anyone can open your document and it will look exactly as you intended with layout, fonts, links, and images intact.
Macromedia Flash
Flash enables you to create a powerful web site environment which includes multimedia, a rich user interface and interactivity.
Clip Art
We have a large CD collection of images you can use on your website, presentation, or any project you are working on. There are also other clip art resources in the UO Libraries' collection or online that we can refer you to.
