Classroom Equipment Tutorials and Instructions

FALL 2008

CMET staff have been working to streamline the equipment systems in the classrooms. We have installed 3 systems each including a computer/video projector, DVD and VCR players and a sound system. In many rooms there is also a document camera installed.

The three user friendly systems do require some amount of practice in their operation.
We suggest that you:
  • Review the Classroom Specifications. This page lists all the general use classrooms and the equipment system type, seating styles, pictures of the classrooms, links for text and video instructions, room reservation request forms, and schedules of group equipment tutorials.
  • Plan to attend one of our group or individualized tutorials listed below
  • Review our text directions for the classroom type in which you will be teaching.

Online Video Tutorials

Lillis Building Online Equipment Tutorials: Check out our online streaming media (Video on Demand) classroom equipment tutorial for the Lillis Building. All classrooms in the Lillis and Chiles Buildings have Crestron Control systems in stalled. You will need to download a free copy of "Real Player" to view. There will be many more tutorials here soon. Check back often.

PRS Tutorial This is a video presentation on The new Personal Response Systems composed by Greg Bothun. PRS units allow electronic in-class polling of class members. Using their infrared, wireless transmitters, all students can answer questions and record responses with the simple click of a button. Results can be saved in a grade book and instantly charted and displayed for realtime student feedback and lesson refinement. Software is available from Media Services.

Starboard/Panel Tutorial (Must be viewed using Internet Explorer) Starboards are both a bright, high resolution monitor and a precision input device, allowing the user to annotate, highlight, or revise their presentations freely, in real time right on the screen using an ergonomic stylus. Starboard systems automatically capture meeting notes, annotated presentation, even images from digital video in formats that you can easily archive, print, e-mail or post on web servers for later review using any standard browser. There are many Starboards installed in UO classrooms. In order to use them, free software must be installed on your laptop. Media Services has the software available. The resident computers in the Lillis Building already have the software installed.

Have a fun and successful year!
