Graphics and Still Images Resources
We willl show you how to create your own graphics using basic software packages or more sophisticated illustration programs. We can help you digitize your printed photos, slides, negatives, or other images. We also have a clip art collection you can use.We can teach you how to manipulate your images using simple graphics editing tools and show you how to put them in your presentations or web pages. Learn about good graphic design principles, techniques, and file formats that are specific to your particular media output, such as a web site or color printer.
You can print your images on our color printer, publish them directly to your website, or take them away with you on a floppy disk, ZIP disk, SuperDisk, or a CD-ROM. We can show you how to transfer your files to your darkwing or oregon account, to download later at your office or home. For information on scanning images, see below.

- Adobe Illustrator 8.0
A product milestone, Illustrator provides the user with flexible and creative designs for both digital and print formats. Working with vector graphics can open the possiblities for creative and versatile designs. It opens up a whole new world for illustrators and graphic designers. - Adobe Photoshop 5.5, 6.0, & 7.0
This is the professional image-editing software that allows you to manipulate and create high quality graphics for both digital and print formats. Its capabilities can produce everything from high definition web site "buttons," to photo restoration, and everything in between. Highly recommended! - Adobe ImageReady 7.0
This product comes bundled with Adobe Photoshop for making images and graphics ready for web. It includes features for images slicing and rollover functions.
- Adobe PageMaker 6.5
An extensive page layout program, it can provide professional looking documents for print or conversion into Adobe Acrobat PDF. It includes templates for brochures, newsletters, CD jacket covers, and business cards, just to name a few. Or, start from scratch to create your own one of a kind document.
- Macromedia Freehand 10
Similar to Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia Freehand allows the user to create high end graphics and illustrations for both digital and print formats. It supports vector and bitmap image creation, as well as, layout design used for print. Explore the Macromedia Showcase for sample works.
- Macromedia Fireworks 4
A quality program that integrates the best features of web graphic creation while allowing interactivity through image slicing, images maps and rollover sections. A versatile tool, it supports all major graphic formats and HTML editors. Explore the Macromedia Showcase for sample works.
- Graphic Converter
This program incorporates basic editing features, and graphic conversion from one format to another (ex. jpg to gif).
- JASC PaintShop Pro 5
With this program you can repair, retouch and edit photographs, or create new images. It also incorporates drawing and text tools. For both digital and print output.
- Extensis Portfolio PC
A great way to get organized, this product allows you to categorize all of your "assets" (pictures, images, text documents, with thumbnails). It can even be search by keywords! Great if you have a project or a collection of files you want to keep organized.
Image Scanning
We can help you digitize printed images using our Windows and Macintosh flatbed scanners. Bring in your photographs and learn how to scan effectively. We'll teach you what the appropriate size and file types are for your project. For helpful scanning tips and step-by-step instructions (illustrated through graphics and text), see Images: Digitizing Images for the Web and for the Screen or Scanning Tips. It is helpful to know the differences between vectors and bitmaps when working with digital images.
For capturing and digitizing images in other formats, we have a digital still camera, a digital video camera, and a slide/negative scanner.
