IT Fellows

With funding from the Instructional Technology Resident Fellowship Program sponsored by the UO's Office of Academic Affairs, several university faculty members are in the process of creating cutting-edge instructional technology (IT) tools while simultaneously mentoring students and faculty members in IT development. The Center for Educational Technologies is lucky to be working with two of the 2006-07 fellows:

Resident fellow: David Moursund, Professor, Teacher Education

While a fellow, Moursund is helping with the consulting and training activities of CET. In addition, Moursund is working to support the University of Oregon Educational Technology Committee. This work includes four major tasks: a) Develop formative, summative, and long-term residual impact evaluation processes to be used with the projects being funded through the committee. b) Work with individual people, departments, and other groups throughout the campus to help them develop proposals to the committee; c) Help the committee to plan for the future and to set priorities to implement its plans; and d) Consult with departments and other units requesting help on long-range strategic planning for instructional uses of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

2005-06 fellows

photo: Mark Horney

IT Fellow: Mark Horney, Associate Professor, Educational Studies
Topic: "Supporting the College of Education Faculty" Horney teaches IT courses in the Teacher Education Area and provides IT training for many adjunct and regular College of Education faculty. His project concentrated on using IT resources to train and support education instructors, especially in the advanced use of Blackboard, the university's course management system.

IT Fellow: Kartz Ucci, Assistant Professor, Art
Topic: "Teaching Visual Literacy: Improved Skills for Students and Faculty"

Ucci used her fellowship to integrate digital art content into a series of courses, workshops, and online teaching models. She created online components for digital art courses and integrated them into Blackboard's interface, making it a more practical and powerful course management tool. Ucci also is collaborating with the Center for Educational Technologies and the Teaching Effectiveness Program to develop workshops on visual literacy, and on creating and using media-rich tools for learning and instruction.
