Communication Tools

We'll help you use your favorite email package more effectively, whether you need to manage a large volume of email or exchange attachments with your students. We can help you set up and learn to manage a class mailing list, archive that mailing list on a course web site, or filter your incoming mail. We can show you how to use other group communication tools, such as a web-based conferencing system, real-time chat and more.


Some specific software packages we can help you with include:

  • Blackboard
    • Utliize the vitual chat, discussion board and other tools.
  • Powerpoint
    • Learn how to create and design effective presentations.
  • Podcasting
    • Learn how to create and use podcasts them to enhance teaching and learning
  • Blogs
    • Learn how blogs can be used in the classroom
  • Wikis
  • Other Collaborative Tools
  • Webmail
    Web-based email allows you to send and receive email from a web browser. It is an easy way to keep up on your messages when you don't have access to your own computer.
  • Eudora
    A popular email client on both Macintosh and PC platforms. Eudora can be used for free with advertising banners, or without them for a low price.
  • Mail.app
    The built-in email client on Mac OS X can easilly be configured for UO email accounts.
  • Outlook Express
    Microsoft's email client comes standard with most Windows computers, and is also available for Macintosh. Make sure you have updated anti-virus software when using this package, as its integration with other Microsoft products makes it very vulnerable to dangerous email viruses.
  • Outlook
    Outlook Express' big brother, Outlook comes bundled with Microsoft Office. It incorporates the email features of Outlook Express with a number of organizational and scheduling features.
  • Majordomo
    Majordomo allows you to join or host UO mailing lists, which can be useful for classes, clubs, and other groups who need to share information via email.
