What We Do
- In consultation with Department Head, plan and implement special projects to provide bibliographic
access to library and campus information resources
- Contribute to the development and implementation of digital library projects
- Create Encoded Archival Description (EAD) finding aids for manuscript and archival collections
- Create original and modify existing MARC bibliographic records
for materials in any format, for any collection, with special emphasis in:
- Remote (Internet) and direct-access electronic resources
- Videotapes, videodiscs, DVDs, and other video formats
- Books with accompanying materials in other formats
- Microfiche and microfilm
- Non-music audiotapes, spoken word recordings, and sound files
- Books, pamphlets, broadsides and artist's books for Oregon Collection,
Rare Books, AAA "treat as rare", and other Special Collections locations
- Collection-level records for manuscript and archival collections
- Items with local and regional importance, many of which are by Northwest authors and published by
west coast publishers
- Share expertise with other teams when they need assistance cataloging the above materials
- Contribute to the Library of Congress' international Program for Cooperative Cataloging by creating BIBCO (bibliographic),
NACO (name authority), and SACO (subject heading proposal) records
- Coordinate microfilming, binding and cataloging of UO theses and dissertations
- Provide documentation and training for specialized bibliographic control projects, as needed
- Under the direction of the Department Head, investigate emerging metadata standards for their ability to provide
access to library information resources
- Serve on Department and Library committees as assigned
- Share expertise with other department members to resolve computer problems and design and modify Web pages
