What We Do
Digital Projects activities
Catalog Management activities
- Select, edit, and add new name, subject and series authority records to the online catalog
- Correct errors found in bibliographic, item, and authority records in the online catalog
- Perform regular quality control checks in the online catalog and resolve any problems found
- Process added copies, added locations, and added volumes
- Process transfers, re-marks, withdrawals, and reinstatements
- Perform copy and original cataloging, playing a lead role in recataloging and retrospective conversion activities
- Contribute to the Library of Congress' international Program for Cooperative Cataloging by creating BIBCO (bibliographic), NACO (name authority), and SACO (subject heading proposal) records
- Participate in special cataloging projects as needed (such as cataloging maps or digitized photographs)
- Develop and test procedures for cataloging automation
- In consultation with Department Head, test new cataloging software and share expertise with other teams
- Write macros for OCLC and Innovative Interfaces software platforms
- Maintain and create load profiles for interactive and batch loading catalog records into Janus
- Coordinate testing of catalog department functions during integrated library system software upgrades
- Contribute to the development and implementation of digital library projects
- Test and implement software platforms for supporting digital projects
- Provide input into authority control for digital projects
- Implement solutions for interoperability between disparate digital projects
- Under the direction of the Department Head, and in consultation with the special projects team, investigate emerging metadata standards for their ability to provide access to library information resources
- Provide support and training in use of alternative metadata standards
- Serve on Department and Library committees as assigned
- Share expertise with other department members to resolve computer problems
