Rush is to be used to accelerate the cataloging of in-process materials which are needed by a certain date. A rush request must be accompanied by contact information of the person for whom it is being rushed. Rush materials are generally available for use within 24 business hours. They are separated out of the normal workstream, flagged, and the contact person (if Access Services can determine which patron record should be used) notified that the items have been placed on the hold shelf for him.
Expedite is to be used to accelerate the cataloging of in-process materials which are NOT needed by a particular date. Expedited material may or may not have contact information for a person for whom the material is being cataloged. This is the usual option that subject specialists use when they want materials cataloged as a priority, or removed from the backlog. Expedited materials will be made available after all rush requests have been processed and before general cataloging. If large numbers of expedite requests are received at the same time, it may take several days for all of them to be available for use. Expedited materials are cataloged and sent with the next shipment of new items to their shelving units, unless you have asked for it to be held for you or someone else. Hold items are separated out of the normal workstream, flagged, and the contact person (if Access Services can determine which patron record should be used) notified that the items have been placed on the hold shelf for her.
Please contact Metadata Services and Digital Projects to Rush or Expedite the processing or cataloging of any UO thesis or dissertation.
For all other materials, it is appropriate to direct Rush or Expedite requests to Metadata Services and Digital Projects only if the order record shows a received date or rdate. In the public catalog the display will read "1 copy being processed for ..." (If the public catalog display reads "1 copy being ordered for...", Collection Development and Acquisitions staff or a service desk should be contacted to put the materials in a faster processing queue.)
If a received date or rdate is present on the order record, check the temporary location (tloc):
- If the tloc is a or n, the request should be directed to Collection Development and Acquisitions.
- If the tloc is w or x, it should be directed to Law Library.
- Items with any other tloc can be directed to Metadata Services and Digital Projects.
