About the Department
Mission Statement
The mission of Metadata Services and Digital Projects is to assist members of the University of Oregon community with organizing collections of materials or making them more widely available. We accomplish this by:
- Designing and advising on digital projects
- Performing digital or traditional photographic reproductions of library and patron materials
- Providing presentation and instructional services such as digital printing, slide scanning and basic poster and exhibition design
- Advising on appropriate metadata schemas or subject thesauri
- Evaluating software to help organize and provide access to materials
- Recommending and providing basic training in the care and preservation of the materials
- Advising on security and use policies for collections
- Assisting faculty in the preparation of related grant proposals
- Bringing records for non-library owned materials into the Libraries' catalogs
The mission of Metadata Services and Digital Projects is also to provide good public service through intellectual, virtual, and physical access to the Libraries' collections. We define policies and procedures necessary to provide responsive, high quality patron access to an ever-growing array of materials available through traditional and emerging systems. To this end, we endeavor to build strong partnerships within the Libraries, on campus, and regionally and to contribute with increasing effectiveness to local, regional, and international metadata, digitization, filming, and preservation efforts.
